Promissory notes are essentially a type of written agreement that outlines the various facets of a loan between two parties (borrower and lender). There are two types of notes: secured and unsecured. Secured notes differ from unsecured notes in that the borrower is required to pledge assets as collateral. If a borrower defaults on a secured loan/note, the lender may take possession of the pledged assets.
